4 Hour Marketing Strategy

book marketing and influency of tim ferriss over nook by barnes and noble

Tim Ferriss is the most perfect man in the world. Just Ask Him!

Ferriss has written several business change/self-improvement books recently, all with the title “4 Hour” one thing or another, and the latest, The 4 Hour Chef, drops today. Tim Ferriss’ 4-Hour book series, otherwise known as “Life for Dummies”, is phenomenally successful, and if he needed these wishes I’d offer Tim Ferriss my best on The 4 Hour Chef.

Tim Ferriss doesn’t need good luck. Barnes and Noble, on the other hand, might.

Amazon is the new Apple . . . But May Be Better at It

Here Comes Business Change

I have a habit of pointing out things that I think are bad. It can sound really negative, and I often fail to move forward by pointing out what the positives are from seeing and acting on—or against—these things I notice.

We’re going to start changing that, right here, right now.

Yesterday, Amazon.com Chairman and CEO Jeff Bezos unveiled a new line of eReaders/PDAs/Tablets that might just take over the world. I’m not convinced yet, and I’m still happy with my decision to buy the Google Nexus 7 a couple of months ago, but I’ll tell you this: the new Kindle Fire is a game changer.

Microsoft, Batteries, eReaders, and Stock Valuations

Yesterday, Microsoft created a joint venture with Barnes & Noble. The new company, named—I’m not kidding—NewCo, will own and operate Nook, the eReader that Barnes and Noble sells to compete with Amazon’s Kindle (there are others, but frankly the eReader wars are already over; Nook and Kindle are the only two combatants that matter).

The fact that Microsoft bought their way into the eReader market isn’t much of a surprise. Microsoft’s been branching out from their declining Windows-and-Office business for a while now, and spending some of their considerable cash hoard getting into alternate markets is a great move. Maybe Microsoft can stave off irrelevancy, after all. Batteries? eReaders? Why not?

eBooks: The Next Frontier for Media Business Change

The first time I commented here on electronic book publishing, I skewered David Pogue for not understanding it. I’ve known Dave for a long time and have used his name as fodder for quite a few business-meets-technology stories. Sometimes, he likes what I have to say. Other times, not so much.

David Pogue is a good guy, and although he’ll one day have no choice but become his own publisher, a la Louis CK, he’s so successful that he hasn’t yet felt the pinch from the people who make him rich and famous. David Pogue, in short, doesn’t suffer from the same problems that Julien Smith has to contend with.

eReaders: Kindle, NOOK Make Business Change—Business Chaos

Nook and Kindle eReaders Compared

A short time after I started using a Droid, I found myself in the middle of a what’s the real-world impact of the decisions I make?” conversation. I’ve always looked a technology as a means to an end, and while I know about the latest and greatest toys before most people I rarely own them early; I prefer to stay off that bleeding edge.
